I am a board-certified emergency physician who has administered ketamine for over a decade. I believe that intramuscular and intravenous ketamine therapy given in a monitored setting is safer and less likely to be abused than oral ketamine taken at home. I started Ketamend of Michigan, PLLC, to help those suffering from depression, anxiety, postpartum depression, and other mental health conditions.
I hope to help you.

Ketamine, used primarily for sedation and anesthesia for decades, has been found to have profound anti-depressant effects, as well as anti-anxiety and analgesic effects. The effects are much quicker than traditional anti-depressants. Ketamine is used off-label for treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain, particularly for those who have tried other treatments without significant success. It has also been used to help those with substance use disorders and eating disorders. At Ketamend, intramuscular ketamine (a shot, similar to a flu shot) is administered in a monitored environment.
When given appropriately, intramuscular ketamine is safe and life-changing for many. The anti-depressant effects can be felt within a day or two. It has been found to decrease thoughts of suicide with a success rate of approximately 70%.
You may be a candidate for ketamine therapy if you have tried talk therapy and/or medications without significant success.
Ketamine should not be taken if you are pregnant or have a diagnosis of psychosis or schizophrenia.
Those who have marked (uncontrolled) hypertension, severe glaucoma, severe heart, kidney, or liver disease, or uncontrolled thyroid disease may not be candidates for ketamine therapy.
Every ketamine experience is different. Factors include dose, environment, preparation, as well as personal differences. Some patients report an out of body experience, while others report a dream-like state or “feeling lighter”. Preparing for treatment will help give you the best chance for success and will be discussed in detail at your consultation. The medication will be administered through a shot, similar to a flu shot.
